Polyvore Interview With… Nellie!

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an aspiring writer who might just be a little too obsessed with vampires ;). Currently, when I can stop myself from relentlessly perusing Polyvore all day, I’m getting down to cranking out my first book. Luckily, I’ll be graduating from university soon so I expect to have a bit more time to finish πŸ˜›

Why did you really start enjoying fashion and Polyvore?
I can’t really pin-point a specific time when I really started enjoying fashion and Polyvore, but if I had to, it would be the summer of 2007. I got my very first subscription to Vogue magazine and from the moment I flipped it open, I fell in love. There’s something so artistic and beautiful about a well put-together outfit. It really can make a person feel gorgeous and commanding to wear the right clothes, the right colors, to accentuate those features with which he or she has been blessed.

How do you begin to create an outfit on Polyvore, or in real life? Where does your inspiration come from?
My process for creation differs between Polyvore and actual life. On the site, I like to pull from very classic styles infused with a bit of trendy edge. It is quite possible to be sophisticated and elegant while at the same time being age appropriate and trendy. In my real life, my outfit reflects my mood. I plan it out the night before and try it on to make sure everything works well: make-up, shoes, bag, accessories, hair style, etc. My inspiration literally comes from my everyday life. I tend to wear a lot of black, but only because I think of it as a canvas that can compliment just about anything.

Anything else you would like to say?
I would like to say that I’m so glad Polyvore has grown to be what it is today. It’s given me an opportunity to expand my fashion horizons and expose my writing to the masses πŸ™‚

You can find Nellie on Polyvore. Her username there is Nellieβ„’.
