Trend Alert: Cape Coats [Fashion Forward]

You heard it, cape style coats are a trend to keep your eye on. Though I’m not seeing many cape coats in the “real” world yet, they have been spotted on many celebrities. This is a trend to watch for 2010. It’ll be sure to come into full swing then.
Though I personally wouldn’t wear one, only because I know they are horribly unflattering on my, they look fabulous on many people. The shape can be some what of a concealer for someone uncomfortable with their mid region, or someone hiding a baby bump. Anyway, try one out! If you like how they look on you but still aren’t sure how to wear a cape coat, try one of the looks below.

1) Casual, simple, cute. A bit Christmas-y, but who cares. I’m quite fond of that cape coat. Lovely colors, lines and styling.

2) A little more dressy, chic and lovely. Try pairing a simple cape coat with a plain top, lace tights and great booties.

  1. I love the cape coat! I don’t own one, but I’m thinking about it. I like how fun the plaid one is, but I’m more likely to wear the grey one. I tend to go really neutral with any type of coat. And I’m not saying that is always the best decision, just the one I tend to make. Maybe I should go crazy this year when all the coats go on sale.

  2. I’m actually working on one of these(I bought the fabric and lining about 4 months ago) and decided to finally make it for the new year. Hopefully I should be done with it in the next two weeks or so. I will also post a tutorial on my blog for it as well! Wish me luck!!!!

  3. @Pretty Neat Designs: I’m the same way, I own mostly neutral colored coats. Except for the bright red one I bought this year! I stepped out of my norm there. :P@K.DeSantos: Oh awesome! I’ll be sure to keep posted on your blog. I’d love to see how that turns out. Good luck!

  4. Actually, I sort of love coats in bright colours – mainly because I tend to stay quite neutral with the majority of my clothes. But, I’ve never tried a cape coat…I may have to now. By the way, I’m totally loving your ‘ways to wear’ idea. That rocks xxx

  5. My initial reaction was “I dont like cape coats they look awful on my shape” but then I looked at your “way to wear” sets and I have to admit, I’m tempted to give them a try. I like the grey one, top left, though as it seems to have a bit more shape to it.

  6. @Clair: Awesome! Glad you liked ’em.@Gemma: Great, I’m glad that helped. 🙂 Perhaps I should try one again like the way I suggested. Haha. Take me own advice? No way. 😛

  7. I love cape coats! I have a really, really old one that belonged to my grandmother, but I haven’t worked up the courage to wear it yet. I’m really fond of that last one though. So chic!

  8. @Courtney: That’s awesome. I had forgotten until now, but I have a velvet cape from my great grandmother! But it’s in a frail state, and is more of a cape than a coat. :)Thanks for commenting.
