Growing up where I did (a small, somewhat farming town), there were always great opportunities to buy local. We often bought locally grow groceries at a local store that featured vegetables, fruits and other foods from local farms. My town also has a weekly farmers market. It’s small, but a great way to buy local. Aside from buying local, my Mom has also grown a vegetable garden every summer for as long as I can recall.

Now that I’m back living in my college town, I’m excited to be able to visit the farmers market here. The farmers market here is much larger and has an established building, similar to Denio’s Farmers Market, pictured above. I’m hoping to shop more at the local co-op here this year, as well. It’s hard without a car when another store is close by, but I really would like to help support this local small business/farmer community.

  2. Four years ago when my daughter was getting married, I tried to grow all the flowers for the wedding. cold summer that year so nothing came up on time. A flower grower at our local farmers market saved me the week before the wedding for a fraction of the cost and those bouquets were gorgeous! I am forever thankful to that farm! thank you for a great giveaway!
