Waves hairstyles

1. Waves, Waves and More Waves

This year’s look is all about naturally effortless style, so even if a bit of work goes into achieving a particular style, it shouldn’t look that way. Long, wavy hair has lots of volume and offers the look of effortless glam. To achieve these wavy styles without making them look overly “done”, so to speak, use hair styling products sparingly and be sure to minimize your use of styling tools as well.

2. The Short Pixie Cut
The short pixie cut is easy maintenance and really reveals a woman’s best facial features. Actresses Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Ginnifer Goodwin and People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman of 2014, Lupita Nyong’o, have all shown us how flattering a versatile a super short cut can be. This style tends to look best on women with oval, round or square face shapes and can appear far less flattering on those with longer faces.

3.  Low Ponytail
All over the runways this year is the low ponytail, offering high-style without a great deal of fuss. The hair is secured at the nape of the neck, but wispy strands pulled forth near the face, adds a softer appeal, giving the low ponytail a great deal of youthful, feminine flair. Of course, adding a bit of texture with backcombing gives the low ponytail a bit more drama, but the soft simple look is equally as chic and beautiful.

classic revisited bob hairstyles
4. The Classic Bob Revisited
The bob hairstyle is classic, versatile and always in style. In 2014, we are seeing the bob haircut in a wide variety of its incarnations – from textured looks, to sleek and smooth to the chin length blunt bob with brow skimming bangs. What’s also becoming exceptionally popular is the combination of two 2014 trends, the textured bob and the wet look. Beyonce’s Grammy performance of “Drunk In Love” in January 2014 had audiences buzzing about the steamy performance as well as the sexy wob (or ‘wet bob’) hairstyle she wore so beautifully that night.

quiff hairstyles
5. Coiffed in a Quiff
The quiff is here for 2014 with all its height and drama. This year though, quiffs are also side-swept (we’re sensing a theme here) and textured, offering a bold, glamorous look. We’ve seen these modern quiffs on celebrities such as Pink, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. Use a little oil or serum on the hair before styling for high gloss on your high-flying style.

side braids hairstyles
6. Side-Swept Braids
The beauty of braids (aside from the fact that they are super easy to create) is that they look great on everyone, regardless of face shape, hair color, etc. This year, in keeping with the look of youthful femininity, the braided look is getting a romantic update, complete with messy bed head type styling. To create a bit more drama, frame the face with a few loose strands and be sure to structure the braid so that it appears slightly, but perfectly, messy.

long and straight hairstyles
7. Long and Straight
Long, straight locks are feminine, flirty and fun! Achieve this look by simply having long locks blown out, for a wispy and effortless look. If you prefer the ‘bone straight’ look however, use a flat iron with a smoothing spray to protect hair and to give it that uber straight finish. Long, straight styles like this really reveals the health of your hair, so be sure to do regular conditioning treatments to keep hair well-nourished.

wet look hairstyles

8. The Wet Look
There was a time when leaving home with hair that appeared wet indicated that you had to leave in a hurry, but not anymore. Achieve this trendy look by simply adding an ultra shine serum before combing into place. As you can see here, the wet look is also very complimentary with ombre hair coloring.
