#Review: RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Card Protectors | #B00XATKDJG

For review, I was sent a set of LINKYO RFID Anti-Theft Protector Sleeves*. The set I received contains 10 sleeves; 2 passport sleeves, 5 plain white card sleeves, and 5 green patterned card sleeves. It’s always a good idea to protect yourself from theft as much as possible, even digital theft like this. Great for use in big cities, while traveling abroad, or just for peace of mind at home.

LINKYO RFID Protector Sleeves| maegal.com

I reviewed this product on Amazon, and thought that rather than rewriting my review, I would simply share my review with you all here, too;

“I’d never been particularly interested in RFID protecting sleeves while living in my small town. (Aside from the year I had an enhanced drivers license and wanted to protect that in the provided sleeve.) Now that I’ve recently moved the the city, I was very interested in using these RFID sleeves. It give me a better sense of security knowing that my cards are protected from unwanted digital thief attempts.

While I could do without the plain, white sleeves that are not unlike the one I was issued with my enhanced license, I’m quite a fan of the green patterned ones. I like that the opening in on the side of the sleeve versus the top of the sleeve. This makes for the perfect sleeve to fit with my card inside the slot in my wallet. It’s pretty easy to pull out when I need it, and not too hard to put back in one handed. I also like that these seems to be the thicker of the two type of sleeves, which seems to be a factor in determining their protectiveness.

I also like the passport protectors. While I don’t travel much using my passport, I’ll look forward to using this sleeve the next time I do travel abroad. (Though other reviewers seem to indicate that this is unnecessary for passports issued post-2006, when apparently the covers of passports were modified to provide their own protection. But I don’t mind being extra safe!”

LINKYO RFID Card Protector Sleeve | maegal.com

Overall, I like and have no complaints about these LINKYO RFID Protector Sleeves. I will be continuing to use them, particularly now that I’m living in a bigger city. I’ll be saving some for replacements when mine get worn out, and the plain white ones will go to my mother who was interested in having some for herself. I would recommend these sleeves to travelers, city dwellers, and anyone else looking for piece of mind.

Review: Pouch2Go- Reusable, Washable Food Pouch

Pouch2Go Reusable Washable Food Pouches | maegal.blogspot.com

For review, I was sent a package of 5 Pouch2Go reusable, easy fill pouches. These pouches are reusable, washable, dishwasher safe, freezer safe, BPA-free and they’re easy to fill! I’ve been wanting to try reusable versions of these popular food pouches since I first learned of them. Continue on to read my review…

As I mentioned, I’ve been wanting to try these reusable pouches since I first learned of them. I’ve worked in childcare off and on for years, and I just so happened to be working at a school that doesn’t serve lunch when single use pouches became popular. I always thought it was so wasteful. You have to throw them out after each use, and they’re expensive! But then the reusable ones came along…

Pouch2Go Information | maegal.blogspot.com

Pouch2Go pouches are great because you save money and the environment all at once. It’s much less expensive to buy a big container of applesauce and fill these pouches then buying them already filled at the store. Plus, you’re not putting so much waste in the landfill with the throw away pouches.

Great for:
Travel, Lunches, On-the-Go
Yogurt, Applesauce, Homemade Baby Food

While this product seems more geared toward children, I have been happily taking mine along with me in my lunch bag to the office. I’ve been filling my pouch with some homemade applesauce that we froze last year. But it’s almost time to make some applesauce from this years crop!

Pouch2Go Lid Off | maegal.blogspot.comPouch2Go Lid On | maegal.blogspot.com

Overall, I’ve really been enjoying these pouches and will continue to use them. My Mom, who is a preschool teacher, is planning on taking one to show parents at next years orientation, to try and cut down on the waste from single-use pouches. I’m excited to see what else I can use these pouches with food-wise.

Review & Giveaway: The Pee Pocket– Great for Boating, Hiking, Traveling and More! [7/16– FLASH GIVEAWAY!]

The Pee Pocket front | maegal.blogspot.com

For review, I was sent a single-use Pee Pocket. How what is a The Pee Pocket, you may ask? It is a “single-use urinary device that allows women to stand while peeping”. Naturally,  I was hesitant to try this out because 1) I wasn’t sure how I left about reviewing something of this nature, and 2) I do just find squatting while outdoors. But I’m always up for reviewing something not a lot of people are likely to review. Continue on to read my review and see how The Pee Pocket might be perfect for you!

As I mentioned, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about The Pee Pocket, because I’m really fine with squatting when I need to go to the bathroom while outdoors. I’ve been doing outdoorsy things and living in the country basically my whole life, I’ve well versed in a proper squat for peeing purposes. But I decided to give it a try.

The Pee Pocket information | maegal.blogspot.com

The package helps you to understand more the broad usage it may have for various people. One use my Mom thought of for it that isn’t mentioned that I think is a great suggestion, boating! While you’re out there on a little boat with not toilet, it would be a lot more convenient to just pee overboard like the guys versus having to use a bucket! They also suggest using it for road trips when you might be using less clean bathrooms, but that’s what the hover method is for in my opinion (so long as you’re tidy about it).

The Pee Pocket packaging | maegal.blogspot.com

I won’t get into any super detail, because I’d like to maintain a respectable review, but it worked just fine and dandy for me. I used it as the directions specified, and had no problems. It did take me a minute to convince my body it was okay to pee though standing. Ha!

Overall, I like the idea of this product. I think it could be useful to a variety of people. I can’t say it’s something I’ll purchase, but if I plan on going on a long boat trip sometime, I know what I’ll buy first for the excursion! I think this could be additionally useful to older individuals and those with various disAbilities.

Review: Shandali — Microfiber, Super Absorbent Towel

shandali package | maegal.blogspot.com

As the packaging says, the Shandali UltraSport Travel Towel is a “lightweight, microfiber, ultra-absorbent, quick-drying” towel that is just “perfect for traveling, camping, hiking, beach or outdoors”. This towel would be a great staple for a number of vacations or to throw in the car for spur of the moment needs. Continue on to read my review and see how absorbent it truely is.

shandali travel towel | maegal.blogspot.com

For review, I was sent this here Shandali towel. It comes all folded up and wrapped in plastic. When you unfold it fully (which I see now I don’t have a photograph of) it’s about the size of your average bath towel, just much thin and much more absorbent.

I plan on keeping this towel in my car. It’s just perfect if I find myself at a lake or river or somewhere where I just need to swim. It’s small so it doesn’t take up much room at all. It’d be easy to through in a purse or bag to take with you anywhere you might be in need of a towel. I’m think about how there are a couple longer walks to parts of our near by lake that get quite nice in the summer. This towel would be great for those times!
shandali in use | maegal.blogspot.com

Above is a visual for you of the towel slowly getting wetter and wetter as I poured water over it. I wanted to see just how much water this towel could hold. I’d say it hold over a cup, as I was able to pour a full cup of water on it and there were still a couple spots of dryness.

Shandali can be machine washed in cold water and tumble dried on low or hang dry (recommended), so you can use it over and over again!

Giveaway Event: Duracell Powermat Charger ($190 Value) | Ends 5/12

It seems like whenever I’m away from the house longer than expected or with a friend, that’s when my phone needs be charged. Duracell powermat has a solution for that.
The Day trip is small enough to fit into your pocket when you need to plug it into your phone.  One the awesome things is that it charges your phone at the same rate as if you plugged into an outlet but 2x faster than a traditional USB battery. If you happen to have a PowerMat you can recharge the Day Trip that way or through the USB port. It has ports for micro USB and for the iPhone5.

Continue on to enter to win a Duracell Powermat!

Welcome to the Duracell Powermat Giveaway! This giveaway is for the two charging mats, the Day Trip and the Long Haul. Keep both or give one to a friend! The Day Trip is great for charging your phone on the go, while the Long Haul is better for charging your phone and even your tablet. I know I wouldn’t mind having the Day Trip around! It’s small enough that I could fit it into a larger purse for on-the-go use.

The Long Haul was the other device that I received. It is bigger than the Day Trip but it can do more than the Day Trip. The Long Haul is made to provide up to 4 full phone charges and also can handle larger items like tablets. The other great thing about the Long Haul is that it doesn’t come with the ports already attached. This way you can use any cord that has a USB connector.

Right now you can purchase the Day Trip and the Long Haul together if you are a member of Sam’s Club and save a few bucks. If purchased separately it would be $190, together at Sam’s it’s $130! I think this would make for a great gift for any of your tech friends or if you have a friend that is always asking to borrow a charger (I know we all have at least one of those).

Book Review: Bucket List Bars- Historic Saloons, Pubs and Dives of America

bucket list bars on maegal
Bucket List Bars; Historic Saloons, Pubs and Dives of America by Dr. Clint Lanier and Derek Hembree is a sort of travel directory book for all the best saloons, pubs and dives in America, as the subtitle sugest. Bucket List Bars includes a selection of 40 bars from twelve cities including; Austin, Boston Area, Chicago, Denver, El Paso Area, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Francisco and Tucson Area. Continue on to read my review of Bucket List Bars.

bucket list bars book on maegal
Review
For review, I was sent a copy of the book Bucket List Bars by Dr. Clint Lanier and Derek Hembree. This book features 40 different bars across the United States in 12 cities, mentioned above. The book is broken down into sections based on city. At the end of each section, aside from the longer features on several bars, there is a list of other notable bars in the area.

Each new bar section features the bars name, address, website and a QR scan code that links to a corresponding YouTube video (there is also a link, incase you don’t have a smartphone). Next comes a little list of helpful information like if the bar serves food, has live music, their hours, the type of bar, why you should go, and what to drink when you get there. The section is finished off with sections on the history of the bar, what’s happening today, the food and the drinks and nearby attractions. The sections are interesting and engaging to read.

My Mom, sister and I have done quite a bit of road tripping. I’ll certainly be taking this book with me the next time we or I go on any sort of trip to the areas included in the book. From the sections I read, all the bars seem like fun places to check out. There is certainly a bar for everyone in every city. I would recommend this to anyone who travels or enjoys ‘historic saloons, pubs and dives’, or get it as a gift for a friend!

Mae’s Musings: Languages

Languages

I’ve always had such a great amount of respect and awe for people who can speak multiple languages. It’s such an amazing and quite helpful gift to have. With so many international business relations now days, it’s such an excellent skill to be able to speak another language. It would be so great to know just one other language. I can’t imagine how exciting it would be to speak five language, like Audrey Hepburn! Wow.

I took a year of Spanish in 10th grade and two quarters of Spanish in 11th grade through my community college. I could do the class just find, but I never really had a good grasp of the language, in my opinion. I remember next to nothing now. I recall basic vocabulary, but I don’t have any of the conjugations down.

When we went to Mexico this summer my sister and I both remembered enough Spanish between the two of us to be okay, but where we were most of the locals spoke English, too. I did force myself to order lunch in Spanish once, just because. I really should take some more classes and try and pick it up more. Spanish is a very helpful language to know living in the US. It’s basically our second language.

My Mom has always hoped she had enough money to hire a housekeeper who would talk to my sister and I in her native language so we would learn a second language. Not a bad plan, but alas she opted for a job she loves versus an income that supported her lavish dreams.

I’ve often joked about only letting my kids watch TV that was in Spanish so that at least they’re forced to learn another language if they want to watch TV. Of course, they won’t be watching much TV until they’re much old. I should write a post about TV and children, very interesting information I’m acquired throughout my short life.

If you could learn ONE language, what would it be? What languages do you already speak?

I would love to learn Italian. I don’t know why, but I just really love it.
Greek, Latin and Norwegian would also be fun.
